Shakespeare Research: The Globe Theatre.

The Globe theatre was built in 1599 by Shakespeare’s playing company, the Lord Chamberlain’s men. The Globe Theatre was then destroyed by a fire on the 29th of June 1613. A second Globe Theatre was built in june 1614 in the same place as the first one. The Globe Theatre was a theatre in London associated with William Shakespeare and his plays that he created. The Globe Theatre was in London, but was built in a place called Maiden Lane, which is now known as Southwark. The Globe Theatre was closed in 1942 just like many other theatres in that time by a group of protestants called the puritans. It was later pulled down to make room for tenements. As the original Globe Theatre was pulled down there is a modern reconstruction of the Globe called the “Shakespeare’s Globe”. This reconstruction of the Globe was opened in 1997 and wasn’t too far from the orignal location of the Globe. The Globe Theatre could approximately fit 3000 people inside of it, this includes people who were standing.

Shakespeare’s plays were usually shown here because he was part of a group called the Lord Chamberlain’s men. These people were a group of actors that were share holders in this group. There were six share holders and William Shakespeare was one of them. As William Shakespeare was a share holder he brought money into the globe through his plays while gaining popularity for his work. The work of Shakespeare was usually shown here and is also one of the reason why the Globe theatre is so popular.

The fire that destroyed the Globe Theatre was an important part of the Globes history. The Globe theatre went up in flames on the 29th of June 1613 during a performance of Henry VIII. A theatrical cannon wich was set off during the performance misfires. As the Globe was made of wood, the misfires ignited the wooden beams of the theatre, causing the building to burn down. According to a document that was found, no one died during the incident.

This is a good summary of the key information about the history of the Globe. It uses a style that makes the information easy to assimilate and the way you’ve organised the information into subjects is effective for this type of writing.

    To complete the task:

    1) Identify your sources (see me if you need to know how to do that)
    2) Include some information about how the Globe is constructed and what specific features are unique compared the proscenium arch theatres we tend to see today.

    Righto!
